Thai Yang gets six months on appeal

IPOH,  28 July 2008

Thai Yang Singh has his one-year disqualification reduced to a six months suspension on appeal today.

The apprentice was on April 7 found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(8) in that whist riding CHECKPOINT CHARLIE in the above race, he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure that CHECKPOINT CHARLIE was given full opportunity of obtaining the best possible placing. He was disqualified one year.

The Perak Turf Club racing stewards heard his appeal today and after considering submissions from his counsel and the counsel for the stipendiary stewards, after considering all the evidence and reviewing the films, the racing stewards amended the charge to MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the stewards. The particulars of the charge were that from the 400m to the finish, he did not ridehis mount to the satisfaction of the stewards.

Thai Yang pleaded guilty to the amended charge and the racing stewards, acting under MRA Rule 12(2)(z), suspended Thai Yang's licence from riding in races for a period of six months with immediate effect from today.
