TOP SPIN made it three
feature race wins on the trot when he captured the S$200,000 Chairman's
Trophy over 1800m at Kranji here today.
Ridden by Noel Callow, the
Australian gelding by Arena out of Gas (by Strategic) staved off a spirited
challenge by ONCEUPONATIME to win by a neck. WORLD DELIGHT, who scored his
first win in 13 months last week, finished third.
The success came on the eve
of the MRA Awards gala night in Penang when Callow, owner Lim's Stable and
trainer Laurie Laxon are due to receive their trophies for winning the
Singapore jockey's, owner's and trainer's championships in 2007.
TOP SPIN, placed in all
three legs of the Three-Year-Old challenge series last year, was a splendid
third in the Singapore Gold Cup last November, after which he has gone on to
win four of his next five starts, including the Three Rings Trophy and the
Four-Year-Old Mile last month.
TOP SPIN was the second leg
of a double for Callow who opened accounts in the first race on COURAGEOUS
HORSE (Howbaddouwantit - Cayna by Kaapstad).
Meanwhile, Danny Beasley
landed a double on CRISTOFORO (Yachtie - Bride of Pomeii by Pompeii Court)
and CHANCELLOR (City On A Hill - Soolaat by Woodman) to join leading jockey
on 19 wins. Saimee, however, still leads having accumulated more second
placings.
