TOP SPIN confirmed his
status as the favourite for the Singapore Derby next month with a
scintillating display in the S$300,000 Derby Trial over 1600m here today.
Ridden by Noel Callow who
starred in the afternoon with three winners, the Australian gelding by Arena
out of the Strategic mare Gas was just too good for his rivals, winning by
two and a quarter lengths from stablemate ACE AND ACES.
After the race, trainer
Laruie Laxon declared that TOP SPIN, already a winner of 12 races from 20
starts, is on track for the Derby.
Meanwhile, Michael
Freedman, who landed his first Singapore winner with NTINI yesterday, made
it a double with another newcomer RULING POWER.
Purchases for A$210,000 as
a yearling, RULING POWER (Viscount - Vintage Power) won a minor event over
2000m in Australia and was an unplaced runner in the Group 1 AJC Derby in
April last year.
