TOP SPIN lived up his
billing when he easily captured the S$200,000 Singapore Four-Year-Old Mile
over 1600m at Kranji here today.
Never out of the money in
15 starts to date, the Australian gelding by Arena out of Gas (by Strategic)
was sent out a raging favourite against six rivals in this set-weight
encounter.
With Saimee Jumaat in the
saddle, TOP SPIN did just enough to win by three quarters of a length for
his 10th win, and his second consecutive feature race success since the
Three Rings Trophy two weeks ago.
It was also the second
consecutive win in the Four-Year-Old Mile for trainer Laurie Laxon who won
the inaugural race with CRUSOE last year.
Meanwhile, John Meagher
saddled four winners to take over the lead in the trainer's table with 16
wins.
Three of the Australian's
winners were for Lim's Stable: LIM'S JOY (Johan Cruyff - Misdirection by
Maizcay), LIM'S ZERPERB (Zerpour - Hugging by Beveled) and LIM'S HERO
(Hurricane Sky - Aphasia by Orojaya). His other winner was GUST (Langfuhr -
Green Genes by Celtic Swing).
