Trigger Express bags Queen Elizabeth II Cup

TRIGGER EXPRESS, who was distinctly unlucky when he ventured up north to tackle the Gold Cup in Penang last December, has returned to Singapore stronger than ever.

A first-up win on resuming at Kranji two months has been followed up, three starts later, by another scintillating display in the S$350,000 Queen Elizabeth II Cup over 2000m today.

Ridden by Eric Legrix, the six-year-old by Citidancer out of the Chanteclair mare Rich Resource easily accounted for last start winner ITMAYBEYOU and the in-form TOP SPIN who was going for his fourth consecutive win.

The Queen Elizabeth II Cup win was the second in the race for trainer Steven Burridge who was successful with KING AND KING two years ago but the first for Legrix who relocated to Kranji from Macau last September.

Meanwhile, Australian jockey Gavin McKeon got off the mark in Singapore when he partnered THE HORNET (high Yield - Millennium Miss by Flying Spur) to victory in the Graduation - 1400m event in just his second meeting at Kranji. The New Zealand based rider will be here for just over three months.
