Sprint Trophy re-scheduled to December

Astro Wah Lai Sprint Trophy, cancelled last week for the second consecutive year because of the adverse track conditions, will now be held on Dec 21.

The Sprint Trophy was not held on 1999 and last year following the cancellation of the races also because of the adverse track conditions.

"In view of the fact that this is the second consecutive cancellation of the RM1 Sprint Trophy and in consideration of owners and trainers unfailing support, the committee decided on a strictly one-off basis to run this race on Dec 21," Penang Turf Club assistant general manager and secretary Leow Khin Ming said in a statement.

Entries for the Sprint Trophy will be re-open to horses that qualify at the time of closing of entries for the Gold Cup meeting.

Penang Turf Club committee has also decided that the RM400,000 Malaysian 2008 Magic Millions Classic, along with other sponsored and feature races cancelled last week, be staged during the Gold Cup meeting in December.

The club meanwhile, is "looking actively into the possibility of re-scheduling the Sprint Trophy meeting 2009 from the traditional month of September".
