V Nathan fined RM20,000 over Silent Mover

KUALA LUMPUR,  12 Dec 2008

Trainer P Visuanathan (V Nathan) has been fined RM20,000 at the conclusion of an inquiry into SILENT MOVER’s post mortem sample returning a positive result.

SILENT MOVER collapsed and died after finishing seventh in his final start on Sept 14 and a post mortem sample was taken the following day.

The sample subsequently returned positive to “Phenylbutazone and Oxyphenylbutazone” which was prohibited substances under MRA rules.

The Stewards concluded an inquiry into the above matter on today. After taking evidence from Dr James Yu, the Veterinary Surgeon of the Selangor Turf Club, Syce Mohd Rizal Bin Roedin and apprentice J Nizam, trainer V Nathan was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 135(6) in that he was the trainer of SILENT MOVER when a sample coded “10799” collected at a post-mortem/veterinary examination of this horse on Sept 15 and analyzed by the MRA laboratory, detected the presence of “Phenylbutazone and Oxyphenylbutazone” which are prohibited substances in terms of MRA Rules.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration V Nathan’s previous record. He was fined RM20,000 and was advised of his right of appeal.

Trainer V Nathan subsequently exercised his right of appeal. The appeal will be held on a date to be fixed.
