Trainer Tony Yeoh fined RM25,000

Trainer Tony Yeoh was today fined RM25,000 over ASIAN TENACITY’s post-race urine sample returning positive to a prohibited substance after the gelding finished unplaced in a Class 5, Div 2 - 1600m handicap in Ipoh on Nov 18 last year.

At the conclusion of an inquiry today, and after taking evidence from Dr Alistair Murdoch, the senior veterinary surgeon of the Perak Turf Club, Dr Reza Singam, the veterinary surgeon of the Perak Turf Club and Prof Dr Tan Soo Choon, the chief analyst, Usains Holding Sdn Bhd, Yeoh pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 134(6)(a) as read with MRA Rule 136(13) in that he was the trainer and person responsible for racing the horse ASIAN TENACITY which raced and finished in 12th place in the above race and its post race urine sample subsequently returned positive to “Acepromazine”, a prohibited substance under MRA Rules.

In deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the type of drug, the nature of the drug involved, Yeoh’s guilty plea and his previous clean record, Yeoh was fined RM25,000 and was advised of his right of appeal.

In addition, in terms of MRA Rule 134(11), ASIAN TENACITY was disqualified from the race.
