The S$1m KrisFlyer International Sprint (KrisFlyer) on May 17 will see some of the world’s best sprinters in action, highlighted by the return of the Australian and reigning KrisFlyer Sprint champion TAKEOVER TARGET.

Despite his years and spreading girth, TAKEOVER TARGET looked on song for the defence of his crown with a devastating first-up victory in the Group 1 T.J. Smith over 1200m at Randwick on April 18.

The omen is good for the rising 10 year-old, who finished third in last year’s edition of the T.J. Smith on a heavy track before travelling to Singapore and claiming victory in the KrisFlyer.

TAKEOVER TARGET will contest the Group 1 Distinctive Homes Goodwood over 1200m in Adelaide this Saturday before flying to Singapore for the KrisFlyer. It is then likely he will proceed to England for a fourth and final attempt at the Royal Ascot meeting in June. In all, TAKEOVER TARGET has won 19 of his 37 starts thus far.

Hong Kong has two representatives — INSPIRATION and SACRED KINGDOM. This pair have been successful in the last two runnings of the Group 1 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Sprint over 1200m at Sha Tin, regarded as one of the world’s premier sprint races.

Both will be in action in the Hong Kong Group 2 The Sprint Cup at Sha Tin — a race which SACRED KINGDOM win last year — tomorrow.

After winning five races each in the past two seasons, SACRED KINGDOM has been placed once in three starts this term and the Sprint Cup tomorrow will indicate just what sort of form he is in after resuming only in February.

INSPIRATION has followed up on his Hong Kong Sprint last December with a victory in the Hong Kong Group 1 Centenary Sprint Cup in February.

Europe will be represented by Group 1 placed PRIME DEFENDER from the Barry Hills yard and the Kevin Ryan-trained three-year-old filly MADAME TROP VITE.

South Africa will be represented by dual Group 1 winner MYTHICAL FLIGHT for Sean Tarry, while DIABOLICAL lines up under the banner of Godolphin, rounding out the overseas contingent in Singapore’s premier sprint event.

Undefeated three-year-old and Group 1 Lion City Cup hero ROCKET MAN spearheads a strong local representation that also includes WAIKATO, CAPABLANCA, LIM’S FIGHTER, FANTASTIC OWNERS, ONCEUPONATIME and BEAU BRUMMELL.
