ACE ALIADO maintained his unbeaten record with
a gutsy win over GOOD FEEL in the S$350,000 EW Barker Trophy at Kranji here
today, giving trainer Laurie Laxon a 1-2 finish in the 1400m handicap.
However, the race was full of drama as the
start of the race was delayed almost 15 minutes when there was a mix-up in
the saddles involving GOOD FEEL and another stablemate, the topweight
WAIKATO.
When the race got underway, ACE ALIADO (Towkay
- Waikawa by Dance Floor) was given the run of the race by Saimee Jumaat and
held off a spirited challenge by GOOD FEEL (Hunza Court - Gleaming Day by
Gleam Machine) to win by a head.
After the race, Glen Boss,
the rider of GOOD FEEL, filed a protest against the winner for alleged
interference at the 250m but this was dismissed and his deposit was
forfeited.
GOOD FEEL, nevertheless,
was distinctly unlucky as he only managed to switch out for a run behind a
wall of runners half way down the home stretch.
ACE ALIADO covered the
distance in 1:20.8, taking a full second off the previous course record held
jointly by EXCHEQUER and BIG MAVERICK.
