ACE ALIADO (Towkay -
Waikawa by Dance Floor) extended his unbeaten run to six when he captured
the S$95,000 Punters' Way Trophy for Class 2 horses over 1400m at Kranji
here tonight.
Despite being drawn wide
out, the four-year-old swiftly moved up to track pacemaker GUST from the
start, settling down in second spot until the home stretch before taking the
lead, then held off all challengers to win by one and a quarter lengths.
"He
just keeps going for it every time the bar is raised,” said Saimee. “After
he winning narrowly last time out, I thought he might face his biggest test
tonight, especially as he was drawn out. But he stepped up to the plate and
has passed the test with flying colours."
Meanwhile, jockey Sam
Subian landed his first Singapore winner in 22 months when he steered GRANDE
STALLION (Jeune - Fraar Side by Fraar) to a shock win in the opening event.
It was the first showing in six starts for the four-year-old who paid $650
for a win.
Sam went through a lean
spell last year when he landed only one winner in Malaysia and drew a blank
in Singapore. His problem was compounded by a fall in October last year when
he fractured his leg in a freak incident at Kranji and only made his return
to the saddle three months ago.
"It
feels so great to ride a winner again. I’ve never doubted I’d come back
again,” said a delighted Sam.
