Visiting jockey Aaron
Austin has been suspended two months for his handling of THE REAL THING in a
Class 5 - 1400m sprint here yesterday.
THE REAL THING (Traditionally - Quarry by Sky
Chase), ridden by Austin, came from second last at the home turn to finish
seventh to FIRE GENERAL in the capacity field of 16 runners.
The Stewards today concluded an
inquiry into the running and handling of THE REAL THING and evidence was
taken from Austin and trainer Richard R
Lines.
Austin pleaded guilty to a charge
under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the
Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that whilst riding THE REAL
THING between the 600m to the 300m mark in the above race, he failed to
improve his position on THE REAL THING as per his riding instructions
and when there were opportunities to do so.
When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts
of this case, Austin’s points of mitigation and his record.
Austin was suspended from riding in races for a period of two
months with effect from tomorrow and to expire on Feb 20, both days
inclusive. He was also fined the sum of RM10,000 and advised of his right of
appeal. |
