Superb mudlark SINAR
BINTANG took full advantage of the track condition to capture the RM300,000
Sultan Gold Vase over 1100m on the straight course here today.
On two previous occasions
when he raced in heavy going, SINAR BINTANG (General Nediym - Clay Finale by
Clay Hero) had spread-eagled his rivals to win by 10 lengths and 9 1/2
lengths.
Coming up against some of
the best sprinters in his first big test today, the Osman Sidek trained
gelding again showed his liking for the heavy track when he trashed his
rivals by five and three quarters lengths, leaving in his wake the likes of KELANTAN and EMIT TIME, winner of the Gold Vase in 2008 and 2007
respectively, TRIPLE HAPPY (2008 Tunku Gold Cup and 2006 Sprint Trophy),
JERAM NEW VILLAGE (2006 Sprint Trophy in 2005) and HAPPY VICTORY (2009 Tunku
Gold Cup) who were all unplaced.
Taking the minor placings
were ONE STEP AHEAD and ULTIMATE GLAMOUR, two horses - like the winner -
with no previous experience in the big races.
SINAR BINTANG, however, has
shown promise as a youngster with a win and a second in five starts in
Australia. Since coming to Malaysia, the four-year-old has gone from strength
to strength. Today's victory was his fourth in five starts.
