Captain Obvious rules in Championship final

CAPTAIN OBVIOUS, who went down by seven lengths to PERFECT PINS in the RM200,000 Dewar's 12 Sprint for three-year-olds last month, showed remarkable progress to turn the tables on the latter in the RM300,000 Da Ma Cai Malaysia 2009 Three-Year-Old Championship here today.

PERFECT PINS came into today's 1200m event unbeaten in four previous starts, including an eight-length victory in open company in the Kenilworth Cup last time out.

But CAPTAIN OBVIOUS (Verglas - Shathor by Toril), who qualified for today's race with a second in one of the heats in Ipoh, raised his game to defeat MY DIAMOND (El Moxie - At The Bar by Akaaber), a winner in Ipoh, by three and a quarter lengths to make it a 1-2 for Ipoh horses. PERFECT PINS (Pins by La Cent by Centaine) finished third.

CAPTAIN OBVIOUS, purchased by trainer KL Chong for A$24,000 in Perth, now boasts a record of two wins and two seconds in four starts.
