Alex Chew suspended one month

PENANG,  1 Nov 2009

Apprentice Alex Chew has been suspended one month for his handling of MAYO'S DANCER (Chianti - Top Dance by Brilliant Invader) in a Class 5 - 1200m sprint yesterday.

MAYO'S DANCER, ridden by Chew, came from a long way back to finish sixth to MYSTICAL ONE (Noverre - Super Super Name by Timber Country).

At the conclusion of an inquiry today, Chew, in the presence of his master, trainer Evelyn Seet, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the stewards. The particulars of the charge were that whilst riding MAYO’S DANCER in the above race, between the 700m to the 550m, he failed to improve his position when there was an opportunity to do so.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of this case, Chew’s points of mitigation and his clean record. Chew was suspended from riding in races for a period of one month with effect from Nov 2 and to expire on Dec 1, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
