Last season's top
apprentice Mark Ewe has claimed the first "Claiming Riders Only" race, a new
initiative by the Singapore Turf Club to "provide an opportunity for the
less experienced riders to compete against each other and hopefully improved
their skills".
Ewe, indentured to Charles
Leck, partnered the Leck-trained MILLION LOT to victory in the Class 5 -
1200m sprint at Kranji here tonight in the first of three races planned for
the first three months of the year to gauge the popularity of such event
which may become a permanent feature of Singapore racing.
Ewe settled MILLION LOT
well off the pace and timed his run to perfection to win by half-a-length
for his third win in 17 starts.
