Kakaya disqualified from 3rd placing

KUALA LUMPUR,  24 Jul 2009

KAKAYA, who finished third to HOT EGO in a Class 5 - 1400m handicap at Sungei Besi here on April 11, has been disqualified from the race and his trainer fined RM20,000 after his post-race urine sample returned a positive test.

The Stewards concluded an inquiry into the above matter at the Selangor Turf Club today. Evidence was taken from Prof Dr Tan Soo Choon, the Chief Analyst, Usains Holding Sdn Bhd and Dr Shri Kanth, the Senior Veterinary Surgeon of the Selangor Turf Club.

Trainer KH Ng pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 134(6)(a) as read with MRA Rule 134(13) in that he accepted to run KAKAYA which ran third placing in the above race and its post-race urine sample subsequently returned positive to “3-Hydroxy-N-Methylmorphinan”, a prohibited substance under MRA Rules.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Ng’s mitigating factors, his previous record and the nature of the substance. Ng was fined RM20,000 and was advised of his right of appeal.

In addition, in terms of MRA Rule 134(11), KAKAYA was disqualified from the race and the results were amended accordingly.
