Hah fails in appeal against disqualification

PENANG,  24 Sept 2009

Trainer Hah Kee Choy has lost his appeal against a one-year disqualification and has been given two weeks to clear up his stable affairs.

Ipoh based Hah was on April 17 disqualified as a result of LIGHT EASY (Volksraad - Darwasha by Robelliino) returning a positive test after a race here on Feb 22.

The eight-time winner in Singapore and Malaysia finished second to BIG STEEL in a Class 4 - 2000m handicap that day but collapsed and died after the race.

The Penang Turf Club Racing Stewards heard his appeal today.

After considering submissions from Hah’s counsel, Dr Khor Li Li (Veterinary Surgeon, Penang Turf Club), Dr Edward Samuel (Senior Veterinary Surgeon, Penang Turf Club) and Prof Dr Tan Soo Choon (Chief Analyst, Usains Holding Sdn Bhd) and the counsel for the stipendiary stewards, and after considering all the evidence, the Racing Stewards dismissed the appeal and the disqualification of one year was confirmed to commence with immediate effect from today and to expire on September 24, 2010, both days inclusive. Hah’s deposit was forfeited. In addition, he was advised that he was given two weeks to clear up his stable affairs.
