Apprentice Gill suspended three months

SINGAPORE,  17 Nov 2009

Apprentice Harmeet Singh Gill was yesterday suspended three months for his handling of LIM’S CONNECTION at Kranji on Oct 30.

LIM’S CONNECTION (Catbird - Kayzarana by Generous), trained by Steven Burridge, finished fifth to CHOISISM in the Class 3 - 1200m sprint and Gill was questioned regarding his ride.

The inquiry into the running and riding of LIM’S CONNECTION was concluded yesterday. Gill, in the presence of his master, trainer BT Lim, was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) in that he failed to show sufficient vigour and determination whilst riding LIM’S CONNECTION in the straight.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record and the nature of the charge. Gill was suspended from riding in races for a period of three months with immediate effect from today to Feb 15, 2010, both dates inclusive and was advised of his right of appeal.

Today, Gill exercised his right of appeal against the decision of the Stipendiary Stewards and the penalty imposed on him. On application, he was granted a stay of sentence. The appeal will be heard at a date to be fixed.
