Rain curtails opening day of new season

IPOH,  3 Jan 2009

Action on the opening day of the 2009 Malaysian racing season has been curtailed as a result of the adverse weather and track conditions.

Thunderstorms which have battered Ipoh for the last one week finally took its toll on the racetrack. After just four of the nine races scheduled were completed, the racing stewards called off the rest of the programme.

Trainer Prakhash Pereira and apprentice Jackson Low had the honour of winning the first race of the season with HE'S A CHARMER (Posen - Famous Charmer by Famous Star) who only previous came almost 24 months ago.

There was some good news for trainer Ng Kok Hoong who yesterday lost his appeal against a RM50,000 fine, as he opened accounts in the new season with KIM DRAGON.

It was the maiden win in 16 starts for KIM DRAGON (Theatre - Kim Tilla by Umatilla) who cost RM120,000 at the National Premier Sale two years ago.
