JABAL TARIK became the
first winner of the S$150,000 Causeway Classic Stakes, a mini feature
introduced by the Singapore Turf Club to encourage the importation of
quality stayers, which was run over 1800m on the polytrack at Kranji
tonight.
With Danny Beasley in the
saddle, the Michael Freedman-trained five-year-old came from just off the
pace to win from SWITCHBLADE who provided the favourite with a determined
challenge in the final 200m.
JABAL TARIK (Rock Of
Gibraltar - Marooned Lady by Marooned), a A$800,000 yearling purchase who
won five races in Australia, won by a neck for his second win in five starts
in Singapore.
Earlier in the evening,
Freedman provided Frenchman Oliver Doleuze with his first winner in his
latest stint in Singapore when he saddled newcomer LUCKY JESTER to victory
in the Maiden - 1000m handicap.
Costing A$210,000 as a
yearling, LUCKY JESTER (Pure Theatre - Swiss Cotton by Straight Strike)
managed a third and a fourth from four outings in Australia.
Two other newcomers, ACE
ARMANDO (Pins - Centaforce by Centaine) and LOCUS STANDI (Street Cry -
Zintime by Snaadee), also won first-up in Singapore tonight.
