Jason Yeoh suspended four months

KUALA LUMPUR,  17 Jul 2009

Apprentice Jason Yeoh was today suspended from riding in races for four months for his handling of HIGH QUALITY in Penang on July 4.

HIGH QUALITY (Mull Of Kintyre - Zelante by Naturalism), trained by Yeoh’s master Kevin Coetzee, finished fifth to BRYONI in a Restricted Maiden - 1100m sprint.

At the conclusion of an inquiry here today, Yeoh, the rider of HIGH QUALITY, in the presence of his master Coetzee, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the stewards. The particulars of the charge were that whilst riding HIGH QUALITY from the top of the straight to the 100m mark in the above race, his whip use on the gelding was ineffective in that he failed to strike his mount at most occasions whilst wielding his whip.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of this case, Yeoh’s points of mitigation and his record. Yeoh was suspended from riding in races for a period of four months with effect from July 20 and to expire on Nov 19, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
