KIKO'S RETURN emerged as
the top miler of the season when he captured the RM700,000 Coronation Cup
over 1600m here today.
His success today — his
ninth in 21 starts — came after a convincing win in the only other mile
classic in Malaysia, the Selangor Gold Cup last April.
Last season, KIKO'S RETURN
(Minardi - Joe's Girl by Amalgam) won the Perak Derby here before finishing
third in the Coronation Cup behind TRIPLE LUCK.
TRIPLE LUCK (Akhenaton -
Casual Lies by Huntingdale) went into today's race on a rich vein of form,
after winning the Sprint Trophy in August and over 1100m on the straight
course last week.
But KIKO'S RETURN, ridden
by Benny Woodworth, proved too strong for his rivals on a rain-soaked track
to beat his stablemate BLESSWITHSPEED (Brahms - Pottinger by Al Hareb) by
half a length. TRIPLE LUCK finished third.
Immediately after the Coronation Cup, the
Perak Turf Club announced the cancellation of the remaining five races due
to the adverse track conditions.
