Dream debut for apprentice Koh

Koh Teck Huat joined an elite band of riders to win in his race debut in the local circuit when successful on ROYAL PALM in the Maiden - 1200m sprint at Kranji today.

Koh began riding only four years ago and has benefited from the tutelage of champion trainer Laurie Laxon.

ROYAL PALM (Postponed - Dans'Ore by Mining) began awkwardly and unbalanced his rider but he overcame that to make most of the running to win by a neck from the odds-on favourite DOUBLE FIANCHETTO.

It was the maiden win in 10 starts for ROYAL PALM who was sold for NZ$130,000 as a yearling.

"This is the best day of my life. I have to thank my boss for having supported me all along," said Koh, a graduate of Singapore Training Academy for Racing (STAR).
