Apprentice Lou Ho disqualified one year

IPOH,  26 Sept 2009

Apprentice Lou Ho was today disqualified one year for his handling of BEST WRESTLER in a Class 4 - 1200m sprint here last Sunday.

BEST WRESTLER (Prince Domino - Amboulette by Hideyoshi), trained by Wong Jong Fatt, finished ninth to GOOD IMPRESSION.

At the Perak Turf Club today, the Stewards concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of BEST WRESTLER in the above race. After taking evidence from Ho, the rider of BEST WRESTLER, in the presence of his master, trainer J McGillivray, and trainer Wong and after reviewing the films, Ho was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(8) in that whilst riding BEST WRESTLER in the above race, he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure that BEST WRESTLER was given full opportunity of winning or of obtaining the best possible placing.

The particulars of the charge were that whilst riding BEST WRESTLER in the above race, between the 350m to the finish, he failed to show sufficient vigour and determination in assisting his mount and to give full opportunity of winning or of obtaining the best possible placing.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration the facts of this case, Ho’s record and points of mitigation. After considering the provisions of MRA Rule 44(8)(a), Ho was disqualified for a period of one year with immediate effect from today and to expire on September 25, 2010, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.

In addition, Wong, the Trainer of BEST WRESTLER, was warned that in future, he would be expected to approach the Stewards should he have any concern or query with any jockey’s ride on his horses.
