Brazilian Moreira off the mark on Ascendant

New kid on the block Joao Moreira was off the mark in Singapore after guiding ASCENDANT to victory in the Restricted Maiden - 1200m sprint on the polytrack at Kranji here today.

Unplaced in four rides in his maiden meeting last night, 25-year-old Moreira, who had brief stints in Dubai and France in the past, rode a copy book race to land ASCENDANT (Sandtrap - Kia Pukukes Sister by Imerial Seal) a handsome winner, romping home by three and a half lengths.

“I feel so happy,” said Moreira after the race. "The horse jumped well and held a good position. I went hard at him at the 400m and he answered very well for a nice win.

“Hopefully, this will be the first of more wins to come.”

The Brazilian has been granted a six-month permit from March 15.
