Having never finished in
the money in two meetings before today, French jockey Olivier Placais was
grateful to be off the mark in his second stint in Singapore when he he
booted REDPACKETDAY to victory in the Class 5, Div 1 - 1200m handicap on the
polytrack at Kranji here today.
"I’m
just so happy to get this winner,” said Placais who had a successful
three-month stint here in 2002 and 2003. "It was a bit frustrating that I
couldn’t get a good ride, but I have to thank (trainer) Len Treloar."
Placais, who has since his
last stint here established himself as a leading jockey in Switzerland,
brought REDPACKETDAY (China Visit - Adorer by Razeen) with a well-timed run
to win by one and one quarter lengths. It was the gelding's third win in 34
starts.
Saimee signed off for the
season with a hard-fought victory astride NICHOLSON in the Restricted
Maiden, Div 1 - 1200m sprint to begin a three-month suspension under the
demerit system, safe in the knowledge that he has the title in his bag.
Saimee is 33 winners clear
of second-placed John Powell with just five meetings left of the season.
However, Saimee is just one win short of hitting a century of wins,
something that he has not achieved before.
