Unheralded RESTORED silenced the big guns with
a gutsy display in the $300,000 MRA Cup over 1800m at Kranji here today.
Racing in Class 4 just two
starts back, the Dr Yeoh Kheng Chye trained RESTORED (Red Ransom - Pristine
Kristine by Spinning World) settled in second last on the rails in the eight
horse field.
He never left the rails,
and when field opened up at the top of the straight, he went after the
leader RICOCO, just as THE HORNET was making his run wide out.
RESTORED and THE HORNET
then cleared away to fight out the finish, with the former getting the upper
hand by half a length. RICOCO held on for third.
RESTORED, who won his only
start over 1600m in New Zealand, has hitherto started six times - all over
1600m - for a win and three placings.
In the other feature event
of the day, HUAT CHAI (D'Cash - Check Up Lady by Zephyr Zip) stepped up on
his good fourth in the EW Barker Trophy two starts back to win the S$200,000
Three Rings Trophy for three and four year olds over 1400m. It was his
fourth win in 13 starts.
