MEXICAN ROSE followed up on
her debut win early this month to capture the S$200,000 Magic Millions
Juvenile Championship over 1200m at Kranji here tonight.
Partnered by Saimee Jumaat, the Laurie Laxon
trained filly overcame an erratic start to hit the front at the top of the
straight, then held off a late challenge by ALWAYS CERTAIN to win by half a
length.
Saimee said afterwards MEXICAN ROSE (Volksraad - Down View by Gone West)
still had a lot to learn about racing and is improving all the time.
MEXICAN ROSE also won her
first two races in New Zealand, then ran a creditable sixth in the NZ$1m
Karaka Million at Ellerslie before coming over to Singapore.
She is a half-sister to
GUY OF WARWICK, a winner of five of eight starts in Singapore but has not
races for nearly two years now because of injury.
Earlier in the evening,
sprint sensation ROCKET MAN's half-brother RAMJET (More Than Ready - Macrosa
by Mr McGinty) notched his first win in three starts when he took the
Initiation - 1400m event.
