Sam Chua fined, Golden Sprint disqualified

SINGAPORE,  23 Jun 2009

Trainer Sam Chua was today fined S$10,000 for GOLDEN SPRINT returning a positive test after finishing second in the Class 4 - 1200m sprint at Kranji on May 1.

The Saratoga Springs gelding, ridden by Oscar Chavez, was beaten a neck by PETRUSHKA after which his urine sample revealed the presence of Meloxicam.

At the conclusion of an inquiry today, Chua pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule of Racing 134(6) in that he, as the trainer of GOLDEN SPRINT, presented that horse which took part in Race 10 at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on May 1, 2009, following which a urine sample taken from that horse failed a post-race screening which was found to contain the presence of Meloxicam, a prohibited substance under the MRA Rules of Racing. Chua was fined a sum of S$10,000 and was advised of his right of appeal.

In terms of Rule 134(11), GOLDEN SPRINT was disqualified from the race and the result amended accordingly.
