Shankar suspended six months on appeal

IPOH,  30 Apr 2009

Jockey Jai Shankar will be sidelined for six months for his handling on FIGHTER JET on Sept 27 following an appeal.

Trained by Peter Lee, FIGHTER JET (Jetball - Watermead by Charnwood Forest) came from last at the home turn to finish fifth to TIME SPEED in Class 4 - 1400m sprint.

Shankar was on Oct 8 last year found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(8) and disqualified one year.

Shankar subsequently lodged an appeal which was heard by the Perak Turf Club racing stewards today.

After considering submissions from Shankar, his counsel, his witnesses and the stipendiary steward, and after considering all the evidence, the racing stewards amended the charge to MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. Acting under MRA Rule 12(2)(z), the Racing Stewards suspended Shankar for a period of six months with immediate effect from today and to expire on Oct 29, 2009, both days inclusive. Shankar’s deposit was refunded.
