Million-dollar yearling heads for Singapore

SINGAPORE,  7 Nov 2009

Street Smart has become the most expensive and the first million-dollar yearling to enter Singapore racing.

By Redoubt’s Choice out of the Sunday Silence mare Bella Sunday, he was knocked down for A$1,400,000 at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney.

Named Don’t Doubt Me, he started just twice in his juvenile season, managing a third in his debut over 1200m at Morphettville.

He had another five outings at three, managing a third in a maiden at Tamworth and finally broke through for a victory in a 1280m maiden at Canberra in his final outing in July before landing in Singapore two months later with stakes earnings of just A$11,300 - less than one percent of his purchase price.

Street Smart is now owned and trained Leslie Khoo who will no doubt hope that the four-year-old will live up to his new name in Singapore.
