Two horses disqualified, Sukri fined

KUALA LUMPUR,  30 Jan 2009

Two horses have been disqualified and their trainer Mohd Sukri fined a total of RM30,000 today.

CHIEF OF HONOUR, who finished first in a Class 5 - 1700m handicap in Penang on Dec 27, and BEST INVESTMENTS, who came home third in a Class 5 - 1200m sprint on the same day, both tested positive to “3-Hydroxy-N-Methylmorphinan”.

At the conclusion of an inquiry today, after taking evidence from Prof Dr Tan Soo Choon, the Chief Analyst, Usains Holding Sdn Bhd and Dr James Yu, the Veterinary Surgeon of the Selangor Turf Club, Sukri pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 134(6)(a) as read with MRA Rule 134(13) in that he accepted to run the two horses and their post-race urine samples subsequently returned positive to “3-Hydroxy-N-Methylmorphinan”, a prohibited substance under MRA Rules.

In deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Sukri’s mitigating factors and his previous record. Sukri was fined RM15,000 in each case and was advised of his right of appeal.
