COLOURLAND SUPREME, second
to KIKO'S RETURN in the Selangor Gold Cup over 1600m here in April, turned
the tables on the latter when he cruised to an easy victory in the RM1m
Piala Emas Sultan Selangor at Sungei Besi here today.
The 2000m set-weights event
marked the conclusion of the international racing meeting which saw the
staging of several sponsored and reciprocal races, as well as two
international jockeys races by the Selangor Turf Club.
COLOURLAND SUPREME (Al
Akbar - The Sky Moved by Spectacular Love) came into prominence last
November when he captured the Astro Charity Cup over 2000m in Ipoh. He
failed in the Yang Di Pertua Negeri Gold Cup in Penang in December but
bounced back with a win, followed by his second placing in the Selangor Gold
Cup.
Clearly appreciating the
extra distance of the Piala Emas Sultan Selangor today, COLOURLAND SUPREME,
ridden by V Sivan, won by two and a half lengths from TESTA KEY (Testa Rossa
- Wildesong by Unbridled's Song). KIKO'S RETURN (Minardi - Joe's Girl by
Amalgam) was a further neck away third - the same placing he occupied last
year.
COLOURLAND SUPREME, who
landed in Malaysia unraced, has now chalked up eight wins and seven placings
in 22 starts for Colourland Stable and trainer Cecil Robert. His victory
today took his earnings to RM1,050,000 - a spectacular return for a horse
who cost just NZ$10,000 at the Festival Yearling Sale three years ago.
