Upsets in 3YO Championship heats

KUALA LUMPUR,  5 Apr 2009

While favourites captured the two heats yesterday, the opposite was true in the two heats staged today to pick some of the finalists for the Da Ma Cai Malaysia 3YO Championship in July.

DANCING VAIN (Black Minnaloushe - In The Vain by Vain), who won his debut last August but was spelled after another run in October, resumed from the let-up to defeat the odds-on favourite BLESSWITHTALENT to snatch a narrow win to pay RM50 for a win.

It was the second win for DOC Stable and trainer Frank Maynard who were successful with PERFECT PINS yesterday.

OSEBERG GOLD (Istidaad - Miss Citidal by Blue Eyed Boy), who finished down the field in her debut last month, out-sprinted the two favourites INTER POLICE and KIKO'S MARINE to pay RM379 for a win.

There was, however, no surprise in the RM125,000 Dato Lee Kok Trophy (Classes 1 & 2 - 1600m) when Horse Of The Year FREE SPIRIT (Citidancer - Star Party by Lomond) easily accounted for his rivals to record his 13th win in 33 starts.
