It's a first-up victory for
classy newcomer SANJUAN and unraced American bred VAMOS here today, the
start of the four-day season-ending meeting for 2009.
Costing A$180,000 as a
yearling and a winner of six races in 18 starts in Australia, SANJUAN (Danehill
Dancer - Tycoon Milly by Last Tycoon) led his rivals on a merry chase in the
Da Ma Cai Stakes (Classes 1 & 2 - 1200m sprint) before running out a
comfortable 2 1/2-length winner.
Trainer Malcolm Thwaites
used to rule the turf with a string of American breds, most notable among
them HE'S DAWAN who won the Agong Gold Cup and Sprint Trophy in 1988.
VAMOS (Woke Up Dreamin -
Kickapoo Princess by Unreal Zeal) brought back memories of those days when
he cruised to a 6 1/2-length victory in a Restricted Maiden - 1200m sprint.
