Apprentice Vikram suspended three months

PENANG,  21 Feb 2009

Apprentice R Vikram was today suspended for a period of three months for failing his urine test last month.

The Stewards concluded an inquiry into the above matter today at the Penang Turf Club. Evidence was taken from Vikram, in the presence of his master, trainer SB Tan, Prof Dr Tan Soo Choon, the chief analyst, Usains Holding Sdn Bhd, and Dr Nazir Hussain Bin Haja, the Penang Turf Club Medical Officer.

After considering all the evidence, Vikram pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 136(3)(b) and the particulars of the charge were that a urine sample coded “J-2472” submitted by him on Feb 1 at the Selangor Turf Club January Tunku Gold Cup Meeting 2009, on analysis, revealed the presence of “Phentermine”, which is a prohibited substance under the MRA Rules.

In deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Vikram’s mitigating factors and his previous record. Vikram was suspended for a period of three months with effect from Feb 13 and to expire on May 12, both days inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
