GIVEN VISION has emerged as
the horse to beat in the final leg of the Three-Year-Old Challenge over
1600m next month after his runaway win in the 2nd leg run over 1400m at
Kranji here tonight.
Ridden by Joao Moreira,
GIVEN VISION (Belong To Me) came from a fair way in the early running,
managed to squeeze out from the rails at the home turn. Once he saw
daylight, he showed an amazing turn of foot to draw away and won by two and
three quarter lengths.
Trainer Steven Gray said
after he had targeted the horse for the final leg and winning tonight's race
was a bonus.
GIVEN VISION, who was
knocked down for just NZ$10,000 as a yearling, was spotting blinkers for the
first time tonight after winning three of his four starts, including his
last outing over 1600m.
There was a spectacular
upset in the Class 5 handicap when PRIOR VISCOUNT (End Sweep - Sally Klaire
by Salieri) found winning form again after 12 months to win by a head and
paid $683 for a win.
