Alan Ng fails in appeal, disqualified one year

SINGAPORE,  Jan 26, 2010.

The race meeting stewards of Singapore Turf Club today dismissed the appeal of jockey Alan Ng against a one-year disqualification.

At the conclusion of an inquiry on January 26, Ng was disqualified for his handling of MAGICAL WONDERLAND in the Restricted Maiden - 1100m sprint on the polytrack at Kranji on January 22.

MAGICAL WONDERLAND (Magic Of Sydney - Rapa Rapa by Dr Johnson), trained by Alvin Tan, started second favourite and came from last early to finish sixth to newcomer TORPEDO (Bertolini - Miss Tessla by Crested Wave).

Ng subsequently exercised his right of appeal against the decision of the Stipendiary Stewards and the penalty imposed on him. On application, he was granted a stay of sentence.

The Race Meeting Stewards’ hearing of the appeal was concluded today.

After considering all of the evidence together with submissions from Ng, his legal counsel, the chairman of the Inquiry Panel and his legal counsel, the race meeting stewards dismissed the appeal. The penalty was confirmed and was disqualified for a period of one year with immediate effect from today to Friday, April 22, 2011. His deposit was forfeited.
