Alan Ng disqualified one year, files appeal

SINGAPORE,  Jan 26, 2010.

Jockey Alan Ng was today disqualified one year for his handling of MAGICAL WONDERLAND in the Restricted Maiden - 1100m sprint on the polytrack at Kranji here last Friday.

MAGICAL WONDERLAND (Magic Of Sydney - Rapa Rapa by Dr Johnson), trained by Alvin Tan, started second favourite and came from last early to finish sixth to newcomer TORPEDO (Bertolini - Miss Tessla by Crested Wave).

The Inquiry into the running and riding of MAGICAL WONDERLAND was concluded today. Ng was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(8) in that he, as the rider of MAGICAL WONDERLAND, failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing. The particulars of the charge are:

1. that shortly after the start, he unnecessarily restrained his mount, thereby resulting in it getting its head up and losing ground; and

2. that from shortly after the start till near the 800m, he failed to ride with any endeavour or purpose to obtain a more forward position when there was an opportunity and it was reasonable to do so, and bearing in mind, his instructions were to race in a forward position.

Ng was disqualified for a period of one year with immediate effect from today to Jan 25, 2011 and was advised of his right of appeal.

Ng subsequently exercised his right of appeal against the decision of the Stipendiary Stewards and the penalty imposed on him. On application, he was granted a stay of sentence.
