A late double on the final
racing day at Sungei Besi here today saw Azhar Ismail won his seventh
Malaysian jockey's premiership from former Singapore champion rider Noel
Callow. Azhar started
the day just one winner ahead of Callow, and the latter drew level when he
steered the Singapore-trained RISKY BUSINESS (Danehill Dancer - Sky Watch by
Star Watch) to victory in the RM750,000 Yang Di Pertua Negeri Gold Cup.
Azhar responded in style in the next race when
he partnered HOT BUTTERFLY (Fastnet Rock - Laguna Lake by Odyle) to win the
Malaysia Magic Millions Classic, beating Callow on the Singapore entry
ALACARTE. Azhar then
wound up the season when he booted home GOOD BABY (Hussonet - Secret Haze by
Danehill), bringing his tally for the season to 59.
Kevin Coetzee, who trained both HOT BUTTERFLY
and GOOD BABY, was a runaway winner of the trainer's premiership with 71
wins.
