Apprentice Barnabas suspended one month

SINGAPORE:  Aug 16, 2010

Apprentice TR Barnabas was today suspended one month for his handling of NTINI in the Shin Min Cup at Kranji last Jul 23.

NTINI (Johannesburg - Delia by Geiger Counter) set a brisk pace to finish sixth to MEXICAN ROSE in the Kranji Stakes A - 1200m sprint.

The inquiry into the running and riding of NTINI was concluded today.

Barnabas, the rider of NTINI, in the presence of his master’s ‘B’ Trainer G Mata, was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) in that he failed to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards in that whilst riding NTINI, he failed to steady his mount between the 800m and the 400m, thereby allowing it to run unreasonable sectional times during this stage of the race.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record, the nature of the charge and submissions from Barnabas. After considering these submissions, the Stewards determined to suspend his licence to ride in races for a period of one month.

As App Barnabas has been engaged to ride at the Singapore Race Meeting this Friday and acting under MRA Rule 48(5), the commencement of the suspension was deferred to begin on Aug 21 until Sep 20, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
