Table-toppers Joao Moreira
and Steven Burridge continued to pile up the winners in their quests to win
the premiership for the first time this season.
Moreira, who is well on
course to break Noel Callow's record of 107 winners set in 2007, won the
first two races astride DARE TO WIN (Desert Sun - Eliza Park by Scenic) and
SIMPLY THE BEST, then completed a treble with GREAT RETURN (Real Jester -
It's The Business by Key Business).
SIMPLY THE BEST (Stratum -
Career Start by End Sweep) showed just why his connections paid NZ$210,000
for him at the Ready To Run Sale when he cruised to a 3 1/4-length victory.
His win tonight means that
his sire has now two runners for two winners in Singapore after the exploits
of STRATA STAR (ex Brilliant Crown by Chief's Crown) who also won his debut
and went on to finish third in the Juvenile Championship last month.
Stratum, who won just two
races, the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes and the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes,
in 18 starts, has had a sensational start to his career at stud, winning the
First Season Sire premiership in the 2009/10 season in Australia.
His first crop included a
Golden Slipper winner in CRYSTAL LILY and he also became the first stallion
to have offspring winning more than A$3 million in the first season.
Burridge, bidding to end of
the domination of Laurie Laxon in the trainer's premiership, saddled DARE TO
WIN and CRISTOFORO (Yachtie - Bride Of Pompeii by Pompeii Court) to victory
to bring his tally to 54 for the season, 12 more than Laxon.
