After failing to live up to
his enormous price tag in two countries, BIGBIRD is trying his luck in
Malaysia. And he could not have asked for a better start when he created a
mild upset winning his Malaysian debut in the Class 3 - 1200m sprint at
Sungei Besi here today.
Ridden by Rio Burnett,
BIGBIRD (Dehere - Innovation Girl by Rubiton) won by one length and
indications are that he should have better fortunes in the country.
Purchased for $700,000 as a
yearling, the gelding raced as The Original in Australia, notching up one
win at three and two wins at four. He was also placed third in the Group 3
SAJC Sires' Produce Stakes but was nowhere near the top class.
Sent to Singapore and
renamed D'Original, he managed just one win in 11 starts at Kranji. After
finishing dead last in his last two starts, he was on the move again, this
time to trainer Mohd Sukri in Kuala Lumpur.
