Although disappointed at
not having won the Perak Derby today, leading jockey Noel Callow
nevertheless hogged the limelight when he booted home four winners from
eight rides.
The Aussie was hoping for a
winning reunion with TOP SPIN in the Perak Derby, having ridden the
Australian gelding to victory in the Singapore Derby and Kranji Mile in 2008
while based in Singapore.
TOP SPIN managed a
creditable third after being given every chance by Callow but found the pair
of GENEROUS TYCOON and FIGHTER JET too good over the gruelling 2400m.
Given the 'green light'
recently to ride in Malaysia till the end of the season, Callow delighted
his legend of fans with four well-backed winners.
First, it was a fighting
win with the prolific TRIPLE LUCK (Akhenaton - Casual Lies by Huntingdale)
who chalked up his 12th win in 32 starts.
Then, Callow had an easy
ride on EMBASSY (Zaha - Elinor by Yonder) who has now four wins in just
eight starts.
Callow wound up the
afternoon with back-to-back wins on SHANGHAI SAM (Iglesia - Zerotime by
Danger's Hour) and BILLY BOY (O'Reilly - Gilded Saint by St Hilarion).
His quadruple today came on the heels of a
double yesterday, bringing his tally for the season to 22, six ahead of
Saifudin Ismail.
