Captain Obvious wins Racing Writers Stakes

IPOH,  Feb 27, 2010

CAPTAIN OBVIOUS made amends for his defeat at the hands of SANJUAN in the Tunku Gold Cup last Monday by winning the Racing Writers Association Stakes over 1200m here today.

Ridden by Benny Woodworth, the Chong Keng Leong-trained four-year-old, however, had to stave off the challenge of FIGHTER JET before winning the Table 1 Race in a photo finish.

CAPTAIN OBVIOUS (Verglas - Shathor by Tirol) had a sensational debut season in 2009 when he won four of seven starts, winning the RM300,000 Malaysia 3YO Championship and the RM1m Magic Millions Classic.

While CAPTAIN OBVIOUS started a raging favourite, returning RM6 for a win, there were two spectacular upsets earlier in the day.

MY VALENTINE (Magic Of Money - Enchanted Dream by Danzatore), who managed just one win (in September 2007) in 25 previous starts,  captured the NSF Novice Stakes over 1100m on the straight course to pay RM540 for a win.

KIM HUNG (Theatre - Royal Gems by Kaapstad), who only win in 27 previous starts came in August 2007, took the Da Ma Cai Stakes (Class 4 - 1100m straight) to pay RM243.
