BEAUTIFUL CHOICE denied
CONJURE a second consecutive win in the RM300,000 Wira Malaysia Cup, the
'derby' for Malaysian breds, in Ipoh here today.
After a set back to his
racing career earlier in the year, BEAUTIFUL CHOICE (Super Istana - Bliss by
Serheed) returned to racing in July, managing a second and then his
breakthrough win over 1400m last time out in September.
Ridden for the first time
by Benny Woodworth today, BEAUTIFUL CHOICE was simply too good for the
odds-on favourite CONJURE to win by two lengths in the 1600m set-weight
event.
A RM100,000 purchase at the
National Premier Sale two years ago, BEAUTIFUL CHOICE has now started just
six times for two wins and three seconds.
It was a breakthrough day
for Aussie jockey Daniel Moor and Brazilian rider Emerson Da Cruz (EG Cruz).
Moor had a lucky break when
he replaced Azhar Ismail who took a tumble in Race 2, on EASTERN BABY (Al Maher - Savannah
by Centaine) and promptly steered the favourite to an easy win in the Class
3 - 1100m sprint over the straight course. It was the Australian's maiden
weekend in Malaysia.
EG Cruz, who drew a blank
at the recent meeting in Kuala Lumpur, broke the duck when he steered JOINT
EFFORT (Blackfriars - Hollywood Touch by Citidancer) to his third
consecutive win in a Class 3 - 1400m handicap.
