David Chong disqualified and fined

Jockey David Chong's appeal against a two-year disqualification and fine of S$50,000 was dismissed today.

Chong was charged and found guilty for his handling of POWERFUL LEADER in the Maiden - 1400m sprint at Kranji here on Feb 16.

POWERFUL RULER, trained by Brian Dean and ridden by Chong, came from second last of 11 runners at the home turn to finish fifth to JUSTICE.

The race meeting stewards heard the appeal today.

After considering submissions from Chong, his legal counsel, the chairman of the inquiry panel and his legal counsel, the race meeting stewards dismissed the appeal. The penalty was confirmed and Chong was disqualified for a period of two years with effect from May 26 to May 25, 2012 and in addition, he was fined a sum of S$50,000. His deposit was forfeited.
