IPOH:  Nov 12, 2010

Trainer Peter Lee was today fined a total of RM80,000 after urine samples of two of his charges returned positive last September.

AMAZING HERO (Tsuimai - Little But Nasty by Little Current), which finished second to XIN DONG WARRIOR, in a Class 5 - 1400m sprint on Sep 25, and BLACK SAPPHIRE (Monza - Miss Senorita by Senor Pete), which finished fifth to ELEVENTH AVENUE in a Class 5 - 1400m handicap the next day, tested positive to "naproxen, ibuprofen, diclofenac and indomethacin", prohibited substances in terms of MRA rules.

The Stewards continued the inquiry in relation to the above matter at the Perak Turf Club here today. Evidence was taken from Lee, Prof Dr Tan Soo Choon, the Chief Analyst, Usains Holding Sdn Bhd and Dr Alistair Murdoch, the Senior Veterinary Surgeon of the Perak Turf Club.

Lee pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 133(1)(e) in that he administered or caused to be administered "Naproxen, Ibuprofen, Diclofenac & Indomethacin", prohibited substances under the MRA Rules, to "AMAZING HERO" which ran second placing in Race 2 on Sep 25 at the Perak Turf Club.

Lee also pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 133(1)(e) in that he administered or caused to be administered "Naproxen, Ibuprofen, Diclofenac & Indomethacin", prohibited substances under the MRA Rules, to "BLACK SAPPHIRE" which ran fifth placing in Race 1 on Sep 26 at the Perak Turf Club.

In deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Lee’s mitigating factors, his previous record and the nature of the drugs involved. Lee was fined RM40,000 under each charge and was advised of his right of appeal.

In addition, AMAZING HERO and BLACK SAPPHIRE were both disqualified from their respective races and the results will be amended accordingly.
