IPOH:  Jul 23, 2010

Two horses trained by Wong Kong Fatt have been disqualified from their races after returning positive swabs and Wong was fined a total of RM40,000.

FISHING (Captain Rio - Assonnata by Soviet Star) finished fifth to KNIGHT GREG in a Class 5 - 1200m sprint in Penang on Jun 23 while CONSONG (Align - Rennaisance Girl by Danasinga) ran second to DASHING HERO in a Class 4 - 1400m handicap on the same day.

At the conclusion of an inquiry here today, evidence was taken from Prof Dr Tan Soo Choon, the chief analyst, Usains Holding Sdn Bhd and Dr Alistair Murdoch, the senior veterinary surgeon of the Perak Turf Club and Wong.

Wong pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 134(6)(a) as read with MRA Rule 134(13) and punishable under MRA Rule 134(7) in that he accepted to run “FISHING” which ran fifth placing in Race 1 on Jun 26 at the Penang Turf Club June/July Meeting 2010 and its post-race urine sample subsequently returned positive to “3-Hydroxy-N-Methylmorphinan”, a prohibited substance under MRA Rules.

Wong also pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 134(6)(a) as read with MRA Rule 134(13) and punishable under MRA Rule 134(7) in that he accepted to run “CONSONG” which ran second placing in Race 7 on Jun 26 at the Penang Turf Club June/July Meeting 2010 and its post-race urine sample subsequently returned positive to “3-Hydroxy-N-Methylmorphinan”, a prohibited substance under MRA Rules.

In deciding on penalty, the stewards took into consideration Wong’s mitigating factors, his previous record and the nature of the drug involved. Wong was fined RM20,000 under each charge and was advised of his right of appeal.

In addition, in terms of MRA Rule 134(11), FISHING and CONSONG were both disqualified from their respective races and the results will be amended accordingly.
